A recent article at HerbClip™ Online discusses the use of inhaled peppermint essential oil for nausea following cardiac surgery. While all treatment plans should always be discussed with your doctor, we believe a peppermint essential oil inhalation can be a helpful part of post surgical treatment for nausea:
One open-label study that evaluated the efficacy of inhaled peppermint essential oil in patients who experienced nausea after cardiac surgery found that a one-time use of the inhaler resulted in 55.8% of the patients having no nausea and 23.5% having only mild nausea.4 Five patients needed to use the inhaler a second time, and four of them were nausea free after the second use.
Who among us hasn’t turned to Dr. Google in our time of need? Dr. Google can be a great resource to prepare for an appointment with an actual doctor. We should all be strong advocates for our own health, so having the tools at our fingertips to research symptoms, treatment options, etc. is a wonderful thing. However, Dr. Google should never be a substitute for consulting with a medical professional. When it comes to using essential oils safely, we need to do more than just follow random advice we find through an online search.
In a post for life holistically, Leslie Moldenauer (CHNC, HHP, Cert. Aroma) warns us of the dangers of taking advice from Dr. Google about aromatherapy:
With the accessibility of information on the Internet, should we go to the doctor, whether it is an allopathic or complementary practitioner? When speaking to aromatherapy, people search the Internet, Facebook or Pinterest, asking for an oil or oil blend that will help their health concern. Many times, the method of application and safety is not covered, so in cases of someone searching for information with limited knowledge of the topic, it can be a precarious situation. The recommendations given online come from a place of wanting to help others, but many times, they miss the mark.
This post of a great resource for learning ways to use aromatherapy safely and responsibly. We highly recommend giving it a thorough read. Aromatherapy can be a safe and healthy way to improve daily life, but learning to use essential oils safely is the number one priority.
Well, I did put my shovel away .. and so of course we had snow showers today .. its ‘Murphy Law’.
The year 2011, started off running .. and here we are .. its Spring already.!
After a very ‘snowy’ winter, the Spring Season is such a joy. New beginnings, watching Mother Nature .. as all the plants, trees and flowers are waking up after their long winter sleep.
I’m excited to dig in the dirt .. and have already gotten my planters ready for the herbs and flowers that I will be planting this year.
Even if you do not have land to plant .. you can always do a container garden .. and actually, I have most of my herbs in my half barrel planters.
From Rosemary, Sage, Chocolate Peppermint, Peppermint, Spearmint, Lemon Thyme, Sweet Italian Basil, Holy Basil (or Tulsi as it is also known), Thai Basil, Cinnamon Basil .. geez .. yes indeed ..love all the Basil’s !!!
Letting the younger children walk thru and sniff and touch these wonderful fragrant herbs.!!
The look of wonder on their faces!!!
Have you thought about what you will be planting this season??
With what they are doing to our foods .. it is so important now more then ever, to ‘grow our own’ if possible.!!!

The Season of Thanksgiving, the weather is chilly, the leaves are almost gone now, though just this morning I was out with my dog Sasha, the wind was strong, the music of the wind thru the trees to me is powerful magic. Then, to shatter the moment a plane went overhead and of course the cars are zoom zooming by. Ah yes, Life in the big city.
This is a tough time of year for many people. The holiday season fast approaching – is actually one of the most stressful times of year. As the big companies decorate and festivities are high with holiday cheer … it is also a time of reflection. Another year almost over, we think of the losses, patterns we have not broken, that feeling of disconnection. Aloneness.
It is a very courageous person who can actually reach out to love. Love can be so scary .. yet we all crave that intimacy with another. We are human after all .. it is innate in us .. we are pack animals and not meant to be alone.
So, please, be sure to ‘care for each other’. Reach out to that friend or family member, sharing of ourselves does not cost a thing. Yet, is one of the most rewarding things we can do for them and for ourselves.
Thank you, to all those that have been so supported of me and SunRose thru the years.
And in saying that .. if you are still reading with me here .. I am offering on Cyber Monday (November 26, 2007), a 10% discount for that day only .. regardless of any other promotion going on. The cold weather also means, windows closed, sniffles abound ..
Here is a recipe that has been helpful either in a diffuser, vaporizer or inhaler:
Breathing Formula – Lavender, Eucalyptus globulus, Peppermint
Banish that cold! These oils are formulated to ease the stuffiness of a cold.
Lavender has been known to be beneficial to the respiratory system.
Eucalyptus globulus traditionally has be used for respiratory aliments.
Peppermint has a dual action- cooling when hot and warming when cold.
This has made it a good remedy for colds by halting mucous.
